In contrast, while Sorcs, Amazons and Necros get skills that have a good damage output, they have a hard time getting durable enough for melee combat as they deffensive skills need a big investment in skill points and Vitality, which will leave them sub-par when it comes to damage output. Shifter Druids can also become very durable (while still having good damage output), but they need a much higher skill investment, so they can't do it "on the side". Since the deffensive skills need so little skill point investment, they can put almost all skill points into offensive skills and they need less specialized gear for deffense. 1 point into BO or Fade (or a staffmod somewhere) does more to to make a Barb/'sin durable than 30 points into Aerial Guard. Both have several very good 1-pt defensive/crowd control skills (Barb: Close Combat/Throwing Mastery, BO, Shout, the passives, War Cry 'sin: Melee Mastery, Blade Shield, Fade/Shade Armor, Mind Blast, Shadow Master). Generally, Barbs and 'sins IMHO have the easiest time getting overpowered. And with only one element you have to break the immunities can't really work around them. The biggest problem a lightning Sorc has in Hell is that AFAIK Lightning Immunes are generally the most difficult to break.
